I have had this telescope since and is my First and current imaging telescope.
The Starwave 80ED-R is a more compact and refined version of the orginal Starwave 80ED. It has improved optics in the form of an S-FPL53 based doublet objective lens providing superior colour correction, and a lighter more compact tube with a "Rack and Pinion" geared focuser.
I have Owned this telescope since December 2020 and is my scope I use for visual astronomy mainly.
Sky-Watcher Dobsonian telescopes provide excellent all round performance for the observation the Moon, Planets, Deep Sky Objects and Nebulae.
The Dobsonian mount, popularised by John Dobson in the 1970s, is a simple and efficient method of mounting a Newtonian reflector.
Based on the Alt-Azimuth principal Dobsonian telescopes are fast and easy to set up. It is a box-type mounting which allows the telescope to pivot in altitude, while the box itself is rotated on a base in azimuth. The secret of the design is to correctly balance the optical tube and use materials that enable it to moved easily when nudged but stay in position when not.
The mount is designed to be driven by hand as opposed to slow motion controls.
Features
I have had this guide scope since September 2020 I use this with the GPCAM
Guide Scope Kit:
50mm Optical tube focal length is 206.6mm (F4.1) which is perfect for autoguiding a small refractor with GPCAM Camera.
The focuser has a 1.25" ID push-fit adapter with brass compression ring, allowing use of auto-guiding cameras or 1.25" eyepieces.
The indexed micro-focuser can be locked, enabling the eyepiece or camera to set at the correct focus-point.
Because the focuser does not rotate, the guide camera is easier to focus and maintain alignment on-target.
The rear of the focuser also includes a T2 thread to allow the addition of extensions.
